Dedicating the Pug Deavenport Parris Centennial Garden

Dedication

Months after the meticulous planting process was completed, McMurry faculty, staff, students and members of the Abilene community gathered north of Radford Auditorium to dedicate the new Centennial Garden to Dr. Pug Deavenport Parris.

Dr. Parris’s extensive lineage at McMurry can’t be understated – after graduating in 1973 she took on a 40+ year role as one of our most valued faculty members. Her association with McMurry’s original Iris Garden (which was removed in 2007 to make way for the Furr Welcome Center) made her a perfect fit to curate the new garden. She spoke extensively about the variety of irises that dotted the various plots which were laid into the concrete foundation.

Two benches were dedicated via generous donations by both the Walrath family and the D’Amore family.
