The S.M. and Inez Jay Society
McMurry University proudly introduces The S.M. and Inez Jay Society, unveiled during the Pillars of Philanthropy: Night of Gratitude dinner on April 25, 2024.
The Jay Society was created to inspire philanthropy and recognizes McMurry’s most generous donors.
Through lifetime giving of $1 million dollars or more, this esteemed group (which includes the 20 charter members listed) provides critical financial investments necessary to propel our university into its second century. These donors stand as pillars of philanthropy for our institution. As such we bestowed upon them a fitting symbol of gratitude – a crystal pillar.
“The leadership put forward by this new giving society is both invaluable and instrumental in providing the vital support needed to advance the academic landscape at McMurry and, more importantly, the student experience,” said Vice President for Institutional Advancement Mike Hutchison. “The charter Jay Society members, and those who will later join them, are helping propel the University forward and ensure its continued expansion and success.”

Named after Dr. S.M. Jay, a pivotal figure in McMurry’s history, and his wife Inez, the society honors their enduring philanthropic legacy. Dr. Jay served as the chair of the board of trustees from 1931 to 1937 and again from 1942 to 1950. His visionary leadership steered McMurry through critical periods, laying the foundation for its growth and success. Dr. and Mrs. Jay donated a legacy endowment that now exceeds $26 million, significantly impacting McMurry’s sustainability.
The S.M. and Inez Jay Society stands as a testament to the Jay’s profound impact and dedication to McMurry’s future.
